The multi-talented Cameron Steele shares his love for "The Baja" everywhere he goes. Mostly known for his Desert Assassins Trophy Truck racing team and his "Rip To Cabo" motorcycle adventures, the illustrious "PAB" enjoys a very successful career as an international commentator for ESPN's X-GAMES as well as being the voice for Lucas Oil Off Road Series and EnduroCross. This is Steele's first roadbook navigation rally but he is no stranger to BAJA. If he comes properly prepared to navigate the BAJA RALLY he may catch on to rallysport very quickly and form a new habit. He's expressed and interest in driving in the DAKAR Rally someday so lets see how he is at the navigation part. Dessert Assassins Monster YOKOHAMA “I’m so excited about this rally. From my very first rally experience, I fell in love with the aspects of roadbooks and navigation combined with the technical skills needed to compete at a high level so it brought a new life to my racing career”, explains Grider, “After many years of surfing fishing and racing in BAJA, I always wanted to do a rally down there. So when I heard about the BAJA RALLY it was a no brainer for me. I’m really thankful to Team Lucky Sperm who is always generous when they come to Baja. Cameron Theriot (owner) always does a voluntary contribution to charity so we’ll see what they donate this time and excited to announce that soon.” TUNISIA 2005: Optic 2000- 3rd OA Bike (2nd in class) DAKAR 2006: Motorcycle-broken pelvis DAKAR 2007 Navigator for Robby Gordon- 8th OA DAKAR 2008 Navigator for Robby Gordon Cancelled- Rally Moved to Hungary Central Euro Rally DAKAR 2009: Navigator for Robby Gordon-3rd OA DAKAR 2010: Navigator for Robby Gordon-8th OA DAKAR 2012: Navigator for Team Overdrive-DNF KTM Adventure Challenge 2005 3 BAJA 1000 wins 1 SF 250 win- KTM interrupted HONDA’s 10 year win streak Anna Cody is a the matriarch of desert motorcycle racing with an impressive and lengthy resume of racing successes, most notably her 2006 solo of the famous BAJA 1000 peninsula run, the first such for any woman. Symbolically and quite ironically, the importance of her participation in the Inaugural Baja Rally cannot be overlooked because Anna will likely follow several paths forged for her by Ella Johnson's horses more than 100 years earlier in Northern BAJA. Like Ella and her famous daughter Alberta "Bertie" Johnson Meling, Anna was raised on a ranch, has fought off attacks by her male counterparts, succeeded in a male dominated industry and, all the while being every bit of a "lady". The historical relevance of this comparison between these women separated by a century of generations speaks to the cultural significance of this important motor sports event. As a tribute to her close friend and riding partner, the late Jimmy Stocker, Anna will memorialize Jimmy by running his #208 in the BAJA RALLY. 2013 Vegas to Reno 1st place-250 Expert -27th overall 2013 Ridgecrest Rumble-1st place Industry class 2013 Laughlin Hare Scrambles 2nd place 250 Expert 2013 Barstow Get-ETS -EME 1st place Industry class 2013 Parker 250 1st Place 250 Expert *2012 Vegas To Reno -2nd 250 Expert Sidelined most of the year with injuries *2011 Vegas to Reno -7th Iron-man solo out of 36 male competitors *2010 SCORE 3rd place class 20 year end standings *2009 SCORE 3rd place class 20 year end standings *2008 SCORE 1st place class 20 champion *2008 Best in the Desert 2nd place year end standings in the 4 Stroke unlimited expert class *2006 1st woman to solo and finish the Baja 1000 on a motorcycle 1047 miles in 33 hours *2006 1st Open Expert Glen Helen 24 hour endurance race on the Dirt Bike Magazine team *1989 to 2004 13 Time District 37 Woman Desert Class Champion 6 Time District 37 Big Six Grand Prix Women Class Champion 7 Time District 37 Enduro Class Champion 3 Time Best in the Desert Woman Pro class champion *1993 Nevada Rally 2500 Mile Rally 1st woman pro beating Germany's Dakar woman racer Jutta Klienschidt *1990 Prospectors Enduro - 3rd Overall - beating 150 male competitors *1990 SCORE 2nd place 250 Pro year end standings ( series included the Baja 1000 which my teammate Lillie Sweetland and I became the 1st all woman team to finish the Baja 1000 on motorcycles) *1989 Barstow to Vegas 1st Woman Expert *1989 AMA National Hare and Hound Woman Class Champion *1980 First Desert Race ever - Funny Story Kendal Normans dad took me to that race he was a good family friend who wanted a son to teach how to race so I was the next best thing until Kendal came along several years later. Johnny Campbell is a living legend in BAJA CA and his name is synonymous with HONDA’S multi-decade reign of dominating motorcycle racing in Mexico. With an unprecedented 11 BAJA 1000 victories to his name, JCR (Johnny Campbell Racing) has extended his late mentor Bruce Ogilvie’s dynasty of owning the coveted 1x plate since 1996. Johnny Campbell’s impressive resume extends far beyond the BAJA Peninsula. In 1994, he tackled the Nevada Rally with a 2nd place in his rally debut followed by an outright win the next year, much to the dismay of veteran European rally champions. In 2001, Johnny made his DAKAR Rally debut on the HONDA XR650R and finished in ninth place, the best performance to date by an American rookie at the time. In 2012, JC was tapped by driver Robby Gordon to be the co-driver/navigator for Gordon’s impressive run where the duo won 2 stages (Campbell’s first in a DAKAR) and nearly 2 others. Recognized beyond BAJA CA for his impressive reign, Campbell’s strong spirituality and family values extend to his charitable activities and participation in group riding adventures, most recently with his partnership with Cameron Steele (BAJA BEACH BASH) where the duo raised over $32,000 in donations for the Rancho Santa Marta Orphanage in San Vicente, BAJA. Campbell resides in San Clemente with his wife Faye and their two children. Hari was born & brought up in India. When cable TV was first introduced in India in 1991, that's when he watched The Dakar and was amazed at the bikes, the riders and their skills. Hari never had a chance to own a bike until he moved to the US in 2002. But since then he owned and rode sport bikes on & off the track. His wife introduced him to off-road bikes by taking him to Metcalf motorcycle park in 2009 and then he bought his first KTM 530. However the thrill of riding a Dakar styled bike finally made him to upgrade to a KTM 690 with a full rally kit. Hari never raced before and is looking forward to taking part in his first ever off-road race. His goal is just to finish the race and have fun and get to know the other riders, some of whom has raced the Dakar. |
