23 Bikes En Route to Ensenada PORT OF LIVERPOOL, UNITED KINGDOM- Bajarallymoto.com has announced that the cargo vessel ARA ATLANTIS (Gibraltar) has set sail with 2 shipping containers carrying 23 rally motorbikes en route to the Port of Ensenada for the upcoming BAJA RALLY 2016 in Baja CA, Mexico October 10-15. The historic voyage is an unprecedented undertaking both for the sport of off road racing in the state of Baja CA and the port city of Ensenada.
“This shipment of 23 race vehicles to our port shows the world that Ensenada is not only an international tourist destination, but also a key industrial center in North America”, explains BAJA RALLY’s Chairman Emeritus Nico Saad.
“The dedication and effort of our Proturismo office and senior management to route a cargo ship from Europe directly to our port is a testament to our city’s commitment to promoting off-road rally racing and adventure tourism.”
80 racers from 13 different countries will converge at the San Nicolas Hotel and Casino on October 10 for the six day BAJA RALLY that features 5 days of rally stage racing over 800 miles of Baja CA’s most pristine landscapes. The relatively young BAJA RALLY is only in its fourth year of operations and has doubled in size from the prior year’s edition, whose key objectives include sharing this states rugged beauty with new entrants and stimulating return adventure tourism visits.
“Behind the scenes are some critical players who worked tirelessly for months to clear the first step of disembarking from the United Kingdom”, explains Mauricio Parra, BAJA RALLY Director of Government Affairs who is managing the shipping project. “In particular is Tom Clow from Knights of Old in England who coordinated with freight forwarder John Goode and customs brokers Victor Celis & Victor Celis Jr.”
There’s still a lot of water to cross on the 38 day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean and routing through the Port of Balboa in the Panama Canal. Parra said that BAJA RALLY is already working closely with civic leaders and Port Commissioner Hector Bautista in Ensenada to ensure a timely import of the racers’ motorbikes for the big event.
“It’s the first time this has been attempted and big challenge for everyone”, Parra continued, “In a way, it seems like we are ‘swinging for the piñata’ trying to pull this off, but we're ambitious to share our rally and Baja CA’s treasures with European racers, their families & support teams. We think they will certainly want to return for their own adventure after this.”
Parra continued to explain how “rally racing” is in its infancy stages in North America and how his BAJA RALLY team borrowed the shipping strategy from the enormously popular DAKAR RALLY, which offers free shipping from Paris to South America each year for the world’s longest motorsports event.
“We pretty much decided that in order to sustain our event, we needed to bring the racers to Mexico so we offered them a free ride on the boat. The normal cost for a racer to ship a single bike is several thousand dollars but consolidating a single shipment with 2 containers and using a temporary import (CARNET) was an economical way to share what we have here and attract more world-class racers to future editions.”
Among the teams with motorbikes on the ATLANTIS are racers from Australia, Austria, Kenya, Italy, Scotland, Ireland the UK. Major teams fielding multiple riders include Desert Rose Racing headed by Patsy Quick, Motoden UK’s George Dennison and Austria’s Team Yamaha headed by Stefan Rosner. LAWRENCE HACKING RETURNS TO BAJA RALLY ABOARD HONDA AFRICA TWIN
GEORGETOWN, ONTARIO, CANADA-Bajarallymoto.com has announced that Canadian off-road racer and moto-journalist Lawrence Hacking will race HONDA’s new CRF 1000 Africa Twin in the 2016 Baja Rally October 10-15 here in Ensenada.
The veteran rider will ride HONDA's reincarnation of the infamous adventure bike in the "invitation only" Expert ADV class with the hopes of completing the 5-day rally that criss-crosses 1,600 KM of the rugged Baja CA Peninsula. However the experienced pilot is cautiously optimistic about his objectives.
"I have to be realistic, my goal is simply to finish and based on my experience with the new Honda and from what the course was like last year I think it is entirely feasible. I can't wait to face the the challenge head on." said Hacking from his home in Georgetown, Ontario.
Hacking has been training regularly in the off-season and is heading to Portugal for a week of off-road riding with 10-time Dakar rally rider Simon Pavey.
"Riding with Simon will be another chance to learn from one of the best GS-style training instructors in the World. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to discover the back roads of the Algarve Portugal," recounted Hacking.
Hacking has raced motorcycles since 1971, traveled extensively to more the 50 countries Worldwide, completed the International Six Days Enduro 6 times and is best known for becoming the first Canadian to complete the famous Paris Dakar rally in 2001. He is the author of the book about his exploits called 'To Dakar and Back' and is published by ECW Press.
Hacking plans to continue building on his extensive off-road experience by conducting an off-road adventure bike tour with his friend and colleague Juan Carlos Pacheo of Baja Voyager, an Ensenada-based tour operator.
"With one of my many loyal supporters, Dualsport Plus, an enthusiast shop here in Ontario, we took 18 riders to Mexico last March to allow them to experience Baja. Based on the success of that tour Juan Carlos decided to redo the tour and open it up to everyone. It is called the 'Flya to the Playa' Baja Run and it will be a lot of fun." explained Hacking.
Hacking is supported by: Dualsport Plus, Arai Helmets, KLIM riding gear, Sidi Boots, Altrider, Sturgess Cycle, Twisted Throttle, Anlas Tires, Overland Adventure Rally, Ollies Cycle, Giant Loop and Motonation Canada.

ENTRY LIST REVEALED- 8 MONTHS TO BAJA RALLY 2016
ENSENADA, BAJA CA, MEXICO-BajaRallyMoto.com announced today the first 36 entries to the 2016 BAJA RALLY taking place 8 months from today and hosted by Grand Marshall Nico Saad of the San Nicolas Hotel & Casino here in Ensenada. In addition to the first 9 countries represented in the 4th annual running of Baja CA’s first-ever navigation based, eco-adventure rally race for motorcycles and UTVs, 13 of those entries have reserved spots aboard the MAERSK NIENBURG, the Hong Kong-flagged freight liner delivering a shipment of 20 rally racing motorcycles from Europe directly to the Port of Ensenada. This historic voyage is the first of its kind to import a container full of race vehicles to any such event in Baja CA.
HISTORY OF INNOVATION
“This city has a long history of pioneering off road racing over the past 50 years”, explained BAJA RALLY Grand Marshall Nico Saad, “So we are very pleased to host and welcome the next generation of international rally racers to Ensenada.”
Saad, an Off Road Hall Motorsports of Fame inductee and regarded as the Godfather of off road racing in Baja CA has been the key figure in supporting and developing off road racing in this state dating back to its origins with the Mexican 1000 in 1967.
“Our BAJA RALLY continues to innovate and grow off-road motorsports here with a new style of rally racing that is being warmly welcomed by our citizens, land owners and government authorities,” Saad continued, “I have supported this event since before its first edition and am proud of our official team who have been working passionately for the past 3 years to bring an international eco-adventure tourism event to our town.”
ROBUST ENTRY GROWTH
Due to extensive international print media & video coverage that has attracted global attention to this state’s first ever “rally-raid” event, BAJA RALLY has broken another barrier with pre-season entries reaching the limit in the month of December last year. More impressive is that half of the 36 current entries are comprised of returning racers who have competed in prior editions of the rally, including 3-time entrant and 2015 BAJA RALLY Champion Steve Hengeveld, who is considered a racing legend in this state. This is a measure of success to the organizers who seek to give the pilots their best experience in any race on any continent.
COURSE DESIGN UNDERWAY
BAJA RALLY President Alfonso “Poncho” Alonso said that the entry growth is better than hoped and this only encourages his team of course designers to work harder and better with land owners and authorities to open previously un-raced areas to this cleaner and more eco-conscious event.
“We were working the past 60 days and all the weekends making new routes and talking with owners to make another hard challenge for the pilots,” Poncho explains, “We are so blessed by the support of the community to have them involved directly with us as we make it better than before the BAJA RALLY for 2016.”
Among the first 62 entrants are riders coming from as far away as Australia, India, Kenya and Western Europe. Indications suggest as many as 13-14 countries may be present at the start line and that as many as 60 pilots will take the green flag from Ensenada on Tuesday morning October 11 at the San Nicolas Hotel & Casino.

Indications suggest as many as 13-14 countries may be present at the start line and that as many as 60 pilots will take the green flag from Ensenada on Tuesday morning October 11 at the San Nicolas Hotel & Casino.

BAJA RALLY 2016 ANNOUNCED
ENSENADA, BAJA CA, MEXICO- www.bajarallymoto.com has announced dates and plans for the 2016 edition of BAJA RALLY slated for October 10-15, 2016 here in the Mexican port city of Ensenada.
The 6 day event will feature 5 days of rally stage racing, including an opening “prologue” stage to decide the starting order of the main event, comprised 4 world-class BAJA RALLY stages the event is becoming well known for.
“We’re excited to unveil our initial plans to return to Ensenada with an invitation from BAJA RALLY Godfather Nico Saad at his iconic San Nicolas Hotel”, explained BAJA RALLY Vice President Fred Sobke. “Our team has 11 months of work ahead of us and everyone is ready to get going”
BAJA RALLY President “Poncho” Alonso said he and his team are already working behind the scenes to map out the general route plans and bivouac strategy for the 6-day event. Poncho says BAJA RALLY is leveraging the strong relationships and reputation they have built with the local Mexican hosts, across all fronts.
“We have much work to do from now”, Poncho explains, “But with our full support of authorities, owners and venders, we keep going toward 2016 with a labor of love. So, as we say here in Mexico, animo!”
RALLY COMP REPLACES GPS REQUIREMENT
With BAJA RALLY 2015’s initial success of RALLY COMP, a revolutionary safety and compliance & tracking metering device. The 2016 BAJA RALLY will again deploy the RALLY COMP as the cornerstone of the timing and scoring element and will eliminate the GPS requirement that was compulsory in the first 3 editions. Riders may still carry GPS units as a backup to record their tracks.
CARGO SHIPPING OPTION
In addition to an extra day of racing in 2016, BAJA RALLY is planning to release details on a round-trip cargo shipping option for European riders to make the logistics of the trip to Mexico more logistically feasible. The program provides riders a low-cost method to transport their bikes and gear. With the phenomenal success of Englishman Lyndon Poskitt’s 2nd place overall last month along with Japanese teammate Yuji Shinohara’s finish, only adds to the draw and allure the BAJA RALLY is having on the international rally racing community.
LYNDON POSKITT
British web-TV star Lyndon Poskitt became the sensation of BAJA RALLY 2016 by battling with BAJA racing champions Steve Hengeveld and Cameron Steele, both who eventually joined Poskitt on the OA podium after 4 days at war.
“Lyndon showed up and took BAJA RALLY by storm, illuminating the entire event with his charismatic persona and intelligent rally experience”, recalls Sobke. “We all loved his sportsmanship and competiveness mixed in with a lighthearted and easy going attitude. It was a highlight and honor for us to see him run the best result of his career.”
MEXICAN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
BAJA RALLY, along with its sister-event, The Coast to Coast Rally, have formed the Mexican Cross Country Championship, the first title of which will be decided this month on the beaches of legendary surf town Puerto Escondido in the Mexican State of Oaxaca. Coast to Coast Rally stretches across 3 Mexican states from the Caribbean port town of Vera Cruz all the way to the Pacific Coast Novemebr 23-28. The two top contenders for the title are BAJA RALLY 2016 Champion Steve Hengeveld and 3-Time BAJA RALLY finisher Gerardo Nino Rojas.

Outta Sight Racing's Subaru Outback To Test BAJA RALLY For Future Edition
News From Rally Raid Community
It's official; the OSR Subaru Outback will be participating in the 2015 Baja Rally, September 28 - October 2, 2015! Back in late July, while we were in Mexico on our fun-run with the racecar, we met up with Baja Rally General Director and Founder, Scotty Breauxman, at the Hotel Paraiso in Colonet.
Scotty had some kind words to say to us and told us he had heard good things about us from racing friends of his that had met us in the Mexican 1000 and the Cortez Rally. I explained how I have wanted to ride the moto-only Baja Rally since it's inception a few years ago.
The Baja Rally has been the only moto-only Rally Raid type event in North America, but it seems they have some plans on expanding on their formula - this year UTV's are allowed to enter the event. Breauxman said he was curious to see how a rally car would do on the course since much of it was fast "WRC-style" gravel roads. Scotty's main concern with opening the rally to bigger four-wheeled vehicles was the environmental impact that the addition of cars might cause - Scotty is very proud of his amicable relationship with the Mexican landowners and officials that must grant land-use permission for an event such as the Baja Rally (BR) - and Scotty is equally proud of his event's stewardship of the land BR participants travel on.
Enter the Outta Sight Subaru! With the footprint of a WRC rally car, but only the tenth of the horsepower of a typical Baja race truck, normal sized-tires and minimal suspension, our little all-wheel-drive race car is the perfect platform for testing a car's ability to traverse the BR course without causing unwanted, and unnecessary wear and tear on the environment. Scotty and I discussed things further and after a few emails, we have official entered the Baja Rally as an exposition entry! This all basically means we will be issued a number, and get to run the course and navigate by the same road-book using the same RallyComp rally navigator device that the moto-racers will be using. The main caveat being that we will not be officially timed during the event because there will be no other cars racing.
Scotty also informs us that there are definitely some parts of the BR course that a car simply won’t make it over since those parts were designed with the top moto-racer entrants like Dakar hopefuls Scott Bright and Ian Blyth, Dakar veteran Cody Quinn and Baja 1000 Champion Steve Hengeveld in mind – Scotty also hinted that other moto-entrants will have a lot of difficulty with those portions too, so we’re not sad about missing them in the Subaru! All in all, we should be able to run more than 85% of the course! We are also happy to be able to act as an unofficial sweep vehicle and emergency medical first responders to assist any moto-racers we might come across. And of course, I will be writing about the event for a publication to-be-announced.
Since this event was not expected, we are forced to run it extremely lean due to costs. Our Crew Chief Cory Burkhead will of course be there (we just cannot run a Baja race without our lucky Ginger) along with Chase Captain Ted “The Dude” Sumner and his pick-up truck. The event has Dakar-style bivouacs at the end of each race day and will begin in Ensenada and traverse virtually the entire length of northern Baja before returning to Ensenada for the finish. To us, this all sounds like a recipe for one outstandingly good time! Stay tuned for more details!

Hengeveld Returns to BAJA RALLY
The Baja Legend Readies for his Shot at the DAKAR
ENSENADA BAJA CA, MEXICO-Bajarallymoto.com has announced multi-time Baja 1x Champion Steve Hengeveld has officially entered the 2015 BAJA RALLY taking place here from September 28 through October 2, 2015. Hengeveld, a 7-time winner of the Baja 1000 and 6-time winner of the Baja 500, will take his second attempt to win the BAJA RALLY after his impressive 3rd overall podium finish and stage 3 win in the 2014 edition of North America's premiere rally event.
"What brings me back is the rally itself," Hengeveld describes, "The organization and the event is an experience everyone should try. I've raced all forms of motorsports and the rally has really caught my eye. I love the professionalism that Scotty and his team bring to the event. Its a top notch organization."
Hengeveld, who is well known for his tenure with American Honda and role in the documentary film "Dust to Glory", made at least 5 attempts to win the Baja 1000 and SCORE championship after leaving HONDA before finally winning the overall championship on THR KAWASAKI last year. Now "Henge" aspires to race more rallies in the future and, ultimately, to finish the world's longest most prolific motorsports event.
"I do have plans to race the Dakar Rally," Hengeveld continued, "I know that it would be one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. My plans for the 2015-2016 racing seasons are to participate in as many rallies as possible. Right now, Im really looking forward to what the BAJA RALLY has in store for us. I'm excited."
"I'm super excited to have one of Baja's best coming back to the BAJA RALLY," said Director of Competition Andy Grider, "It shows that our BAJA RALLY is one of the top events in Mexico."
Grider, who himself has a legendary pedigree in the racing world and was the overall winner of the Inaugural BAJA RALLY, stepped down as a competitor of the rally to take the helm of the event after 2 consecutive stage wins in the 2014 edition.
"Steve knows his way around the Baja CA peninsula as well as anyone riding today," Grider added, "With his knowledge of the changing terrain and comfort levels, we can expect him to be among the top finishers on each stage."
BAJA RALLY's Executive Vice President and former SCORE Champion Fred Sobke concurs.
"Henge and Monkey Business Racing are a big boost for our event," explains Sobke, "He definitely kept the field on their toes last year and surely will be a threat to the podium once again."
BAJA RALLY is the premiere off road rally event in North America along with its partner event, the Coast to Coast Rally which starts in the Caribbean port of Vera Cruz City and ends in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Together, BAJA RALLY and Coast to Coast comprise the Mexican National Cross Country Championship, the only such series in North America.

ANNOUNCING RALLY COMP
New Device Adds Safety and Compliance Functions to BAJA RALLY
FULL PRESS RELEASE HERE
ENSENADA, BAJA CA, MEXICO- Bajarallymoto.com has released the first details of a brand new metering device to be used by racers participating in the 2015 BAJA RALLY here this September 28 –Oct 2. The first of its kind Rally Comp is an on board odometer, speedometer, compass built around a compliance and safety management resource. The “event management” tool is the brainchild of veteran Baja champion and FIM Rally racer Mike Johnson.
"It's a game changer."
-Erek Kudla, Director of Timing and Scoring
Rally Comp promises to open a new door for rally competition and training with the objective of attracting increasing numbers of participants. BAJA RALLY will be the first widely recognized rally event to deploy the Rally Comp devices, which are being provided to riders free of charge with their standard entry fees. Entrants in the BAJA RALLY have received RIDER BULLETIN 3.12 previously to prepare for the requirement to "make space" to install the units for the event.
At technical inspection day September 28, riders will be required to install Rally Comp, which has the same footprint and standardized connectors as traditional odometers (ICO), unit onto their navigation tower to be used as a primary or backup odometer. A small attached antenna and alert buzzer connect to Rally Comp, which is externally powered by the bikes battery or an external power source (for bikes without a battery)

RALLY COMP KEY FEATURES:
Primarily, Rally Comp times the rider from start to finish of each special stage, tallies waypoints hit or missed, and calculates WP and speed penalties in real time. When riders approach preset “masked” (hidden from rider) waypoints, an arrow pointer on the larger screen guides the through the waypoint and automatically calibrates the Rally Comp’s odometer to the correct mileage. If a rider becomes misplaced from the course (ie: lost) they can push a button and unlock (open) the next waypoint so the Rally Comp pointer can show the direction back to the course. A significant time penalty will be logged in real time when this happens.
Upon finishing each day, the rider can see their gross and net adjusted times the instant they arrive from the stage. Simultaneously, Rally Comp sends the data to an RF (radio frequency) receiver to the scoring tent. The resulting benefit is BAJA RALLY can post provisional standings as each rider arrives.
Secondarily, Rally Comp is a GPS based 4-in-1 odo/speedo/cap repeater, clock that connects to standardized thumb switches, power and antenna connections.
As a third and critically important element, Rally Comp attaches to a small buzzer (horn) that is audible to the rider when they start and finish each stage, cross a waypoint or when speeding in speed zone.
The long term effect is Rally Comp’s application as an entry level training tool to fill the growing demand of rally hopefuls needing to take their first step. Johnson, 2-time BAJA RALLY finisher and the only American finisher in the 2014 DAKAR RALLY has been entrenched in the development of RALLY COMP for over 2 years.
Erek Kudla, BAJA RALLY Director and Chief of Timing & Scoring, oversees more than 25 race events per year and considered one of the most prolific arbiters of the sport.
“It’s a game changer”, explains Kudla, “Our team has run multiple days of testing in the US and Baja CA and looking forward to refining our process around Rally Comp. I think the racers will love it”. Kudla continued, “I could create an entire event just based around Rally Comp.”
“Mike (Johnson) has hit a grand slam with Rally Comp and his mission is worthy”, says BAJA RALLY Director & Chief of Competition Andy Grider, we’ve been collaborating with him since the last BAJA RALLY 2.0. Mike knows international rally and shares our values and vision for growing the sport, making it safer and more accessible and adding new riders.”
Rally Comp, which is due for public release in Winter 2015 will be a mandatory for every vehicle competing in the upcoming BAJA RALLY and the unit will be entirely furnished by Rally Comp in a collaborative “launch” of this groundbreaking technological safety advancement.
We owe a huge “thank you” to Rally Comp and Mike Johnson for choosing BAJA RALLY as the first rally event to deploy this breakthrough device”, Rally founder Scotty Breauxman concluded, “Our team is optimistic about the difference Rally Comp will make for the rider experience and overall safety of the event.”

QUINN CODY IS YOUR NEW DAKAR AMBASSADOR
ENSENADA BAJA CA, MEXICO-Bajarallymoto.com announced today that 2014 BAJA RALLY Champion Scott Bright has entered the 2015 edition to defend his title and to prepare for the 2016 DAKAR RALLY. The 44 year old intends to also race Rally Playero’s Coast-to-Coast Rally November, thus qualifying him and his Rally Pan Am team for the Mexican Cross Country Championship.
“These events will help ensure I’m ready for Dakar”, Bright explained, “I’m ready to step up to this challenge again, even if it doesn’t translate into a win in 2015. Persevering through this will make me a stronger person.”
Bright, an expert racer and promoter himself, has packed his calendar with as many rallies as he can find to train for the Everest of racing next January. Among the others, the new Cortez Rally, Sardegna and Dos Sertoes, the massively popular rally in Brazil this August. Despite his regimen, Bright expressed some ulterior motives for coming back to Baja CA.
“I can feel the momentum building within the Baja Rally. To be a part of it is an incredible draw. The magic of Baja is something you have to experience for yourself, it cannot be adequately explained.”
Bright continued, “There’s even more to this than defending the title and seeing Baja again, it has become a personal feat that motivates me and keeps me alive."
Andy Grider, BAJA RALLY’s Director of Competition, was leading the rally against Bright last September when his motor failed on day 2 and noted Bright’s competitiveness.
“Scott and I exchanged the physical lead several times on day 2 and he kept me on my toes”, Grider recalls, “It’s great to see Scott’s name in the BAJA RALLY and that he’s focused on being the next American to finish the Dakar on a bike.”
Bright, along with Rally Pan Am and rising star Ian Blythe, spent most of 2014 training for this year’s DAKAR RALLY but had to withdrawal 6 weeks prior due to a funding shortfall. This has not deterred the team but only made them more determined to conquer the world’s most difficult motorsport event. Keep an eye on Scott Bright and the Rally Pan Am team as they spend the next 11 months prepping for Dakar 2016.

Lyndon Poskitt Adds BAJA RALLY to "Races to Places"
ENSENADA BAJA CA MEXICO- Bajarallymoto.com announced today that British racer and YouTube sensation Lyndon Poskitt has added the 2015 BAJA RALLY to his list of races on his “Races to Places” web-TV schedule. R2P is a 2 year motorcycle adventure like no other, riding around the world on a Factory Rally bike, competing in rallies on every continent. It’s not all about the riding and racing though. He shares his entire experience including the cultural aspects of his journey including things some of us will only dream of ever seeing.
“I raced the BAJA 1000 back in 2007 on a KTM 950 SuperEnduro and spent a few weeks pre-running”, Poskitt explained, “I’ve explored Baja CA extensively, so I know the BAJA RALLY will be a perfect fit for me, offering unique terrain and scenic views to add to my Races to Places program. There’s always more to see and ride and riding road book in Baja will add a very different experience, something I am looking forward to”
Poskitt, an aerospace engineer by trade, completed the Dakar rally in 2013 and built a solid following of fans during his buildup and execution of his successful campaign. He took home a top 10 stage finish and overcame some serious set-backs to finally finish in the top 50, bringing home the medal he had always wanted. Since completing the world’s most important rally, Poskitt set his sights on a global tour that transcends the thrill of racing, something that has never been attempted before.
Executive VP Fred Sobke likened Poskitt’s entry to the cultural goals of the BAJA RALLY mission, which is to share and teach Mexican culture to international visitors and spreading the word about Baja CA's treasured landscapes.
“What Lyndon is doing allows others to live vicariously through his eyes”, explained Sobke, “His videos give viewers the idea that you can live your own dreams on your own terms if you can imagine them well enough”. Hosting Lyndon's 'Races to Places' program at our event, validates one of our most important objectives to share the beauty of the land and our hosts”.
During Lyndon’s global tour so far he has visited 25 countries, covered 50,000km and raced in 2 international rallies on two different continents to add to his already impressive race resume; and he’s not even half way through! His youtube webisodes produce several thousand views within days of release, adding to the validity of Poskitt’s organic fan base. Rally is hugely popular in Europe and other parts of the world excluding North America.
Lyndon Poskitt’s entry to the BAJA RALLY is a milestone for the rally-raid event that seeks to gradually grow a sustainable, environmentally friendly rally that is taken seriously as a training ground for longer, more intense rallies. On this note, Lyndon has offered to share his navigation methods and techniques with participants of the rally in ‘An Evening with Lyndon’. For those interested, Lyndon will host a seminar at the San Nicolas Hotel on Sunday Sept 27.
Follow Lyndon’s escapades and cohorts live on Facebook at "Lyndon Poskitt Racing” or look at www.racestoplaces.com for more.

2015 MEXICAN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
Mexico's Rally-Raid Series
12/24/2014
ENSENADA BAJA CA MEXICO- Bajarallymoto.com and Rally Playero Entertainment, in a newly formed international alliance to boost adventure tourism throughout Mexico, have announced the creation of a National “rally raid” series for motorcycles, ATV’s, and UTV’s.
The Mexican National Cross Country Championship consists of 2 rally-raid events in Mexico starting with the BAJA RALLY, held in Baja CA September 28- October 2, 2015. The second and final event comprising the championship will take place in the Southern Mexican State of Oaxaca in December 2015. BAJA RALLY LLC & Rally Playero Entertainment will operate their respective rallies independently while sharing the same rulebook and key personnel including FIM certified juror Romina Addiego, Operations Director for both events.
“This is a huge step for the sport of rally in North America,” explained BAJA RALLY’s Competition Director Andy Grider, “We now have multiple rallies forming a new series in Mexico. It’s huge for the riders, Rally Playero and for the future of our sport.”
Grider, a 5-time DAKAR entrant and one of the only Americans to ever stand on a Dakar podium (2009, co-driver), was recently named to the top post of the BAJA RALLY.
Initially, BAJA RALLY’s partnership with Rally Playero stemmed from the work of Mexican motorcycle racer, Octavio “Chivo” Valle, the only Mexican to finish the DAKAR RALLY twice. In December 2013, Chivo invited BAJA RALLY founder Scotty Breauxman on a team effort in RP’s Trans Oaxaca Monster Rally Raid. There, they formed a program and recruited Addiego to lead BAJA RALLY’s operations and Patrick Reyes for advisory consulting.
"We are passionate about Rally, even when times were tough", explains Rally Playero founder Patrick Reyes, "But this is what has kept us going though the difficulties of promoting a new, growing sport in Mexico and North America. We couldn’t be more happy to create an alliance with BAJA RALLY to get more riders , sponsors and Government involvement in our sport."
BAJA RALLY's chief concurs. “We’ve had riders competing in both rally raids for 2 years now”, Grider continued, “So it made sense to join forces and adapt to the same rule book and technical aspects. The next big step is arranging freight shipping to anyone competing in both events.”
The sport of rally raid is much more popular in Europe, Africa and South America than it is in North America but, according to Grider, the inevitability of the expansion in North American is written all over the wall.
“I’ve seen what they’re doing in Greece, Tunisia, Mongolia and South America”, Grider concluded, “Rally is a global sport and North America is the last to catch on. There’s no place to go but up”.
The overall winner of the Mexican National Cross Country Championship will be determined by a simple points chart based a on the overall cumulative points scored for each of 2 races. The points chart can be found in Section 4.4 of the 2015 BAJA RALLY RULEBOOK
(DOWNLOAD 2015 RULEBOOK)
The BAJA RALLY was the first ever navigation based rally-raid to be staged in Baja CA. Founded in March, 2012 the BAJA RALLY is a multi-day rally raid modeled after the world famous DAKAR RALLY. “Rally-raid” transcends traditional off road racing by adding a cultural element and overnight stops. There are no course markings, ribbons or arrows for riders to follow, adding to the adventure and limiting the ecological impact. Sponsored & supported by Federal, State and Municipal Governments, BAJA RALLY is the future of adventure tourism in Baja CA.
Rally Playero Entertainment and founders Patrick Reyes and Hernan Samaniego are the first North Americans to host a true rally raid event here since the Nevada Rally 2 decades ago. Reyes and Samaniego and have hosted rallies in the Mexican state of Oaxaca for more than 5 years.

BAJA RALLY ADDS NEW CLASS FOR ADV EXPERTS
ENSENADA BAJA CA MEXICO-Bajarallymoto.com officially announced today the addition of an “Adventure Bike” class to the 2014 BAJA RALLY 2.0 taking place here this September 24-28. The new “ADV EXPERT” class includes modified adventure bikes ranging from 700cc-1000cc and is generally targeted toward BMW F800GS and KTM 990. There is also a strict approval process that both riders and bikes must complete before being officially entered. Applicants simply email their resume and references and will be screened for racing experience, overall skills and must be pre-approved prior to being given a riding number.
“The BAJA RALLY is no joke. It will be hard and safety is our top priority,” explained rally director Scotty Breauxman, “we have a subjective process for accepting riders into this new class and it was designed to include only the most qualified riders in the world. It’s not like any John Doe can just show up in Ensenada and enter the rally on a KTM 990. I think most riders would be overly challenged by the extra weight and I can’t see any advantage of riding a 990 over a 450 because the routes have some fairly technical sections.”
The perfect example of the prime target for the ADV Expert class is Canadian racer Radek Burkat who became the first entrant to be accepted into this new elite class. The well rounded Burkat had a noble showing at the King Of The Motos, a Baja 1000 solo finish and plenty of big bike riding experience. He also completed professional rally navigation training earlier this season.
“We’re particularly excited about expanding the field to include these big bikes and the expert riders,” Breauxman concludes, “This is an important group that keeps growing and getting more relevant. These are the same riders who will be following the stage routes as spectators of BAJA RALLY events several years from now.”
The “ADV”, or “adventure touring” segment is the fastest growing of any sub-market in the North American motorcycle industry and powered by 40-60 year old males with mean annual incomes of $80,000+. More information at ADV Moto Magazine
The BAJA RALLY is the first and only “road-book” navigation-based rally raid for motorcycles only In Baja CA, Mexico. Taking place over 5 days in Septemebr (24-28), the BAJA RALLY features 4 days of off-road rally motorcycle racing over 800 miles of timed special stages and non-timed transfer stages. Likened to a traveling, cultural human experience, the rapidly growing BAJA RALLY 2.0 is the closest thing to the Dakar Rally to take place in North America.

KLIM SUPPORTS THE BAJA RALLY
ENSENADA, BAJA CA, MEXICO-Bajarallymoto.com announced today that KLIM Technical Riding Gear will return to support the BAJA RALLY 2.0 this September 2014 as a “legacy sponsor”. KLIM was the exclusive title sponsor of the Inaugural BAJA RALLY and instrumental in launching the first ever rally-raid in Baja CA.
“Having the support of KLIM is very important to our team, our brand and to our participants and hosts”, explained BAJA RALLY creator Scotty Breauxman, “KLIM is “best in show” and they make the most functional gear for what we do. Having the KLIM name attached to our event is a pretty big deal for us and we’re very lucky to have them with us from the beginning.”
KLIM’S dominant influence on the “adventure moto” segment makes it a market-share leader in the fastest growing category in the entire industry. Much of KLIM’s success stems from their garments being engineered from the most advanced and durable materials and construction processes. Subsequently, the BAJA RALLY appeals to “adventure moto” participants and fans, which skew older and more affluent on the demographic spectrum.
“As yesterdays speed demons age and mature, they seek a different experience than when they were in their 20’s”, Breauxman continued, “ The 40-60 year olds are slowing down, navigating to new places and riding larger bikes with more versatility on and off road. Our BAJA RALLY experience caters to this market and we think KLIM is a great partner to work with in delivering our message.”

“Part of the BAJA RALLY mission is to teach Baja's culture and history to our riders and their crews while we introduce navigation-rally to the citizens of this beautiful state”, Breauxman continued, “We believe this will create more return tourism to Baja and showcase the state's magic to the rest of the world.”
The inaugural BAJA RALLY took place over 2 days last October and attracted some of the biggest-name motorcycle riders from North America including DAKAR Rally veterans, Andy Grider, Quinn Cody, Octavio Valle and the legendary “Mr. Baja” Larry Roeseler.
The BAJA RALLY is the first and only pure navigation rally-raid for motorcycles only in Baja CA and promises an incomparable motorcycle adventure modeled after the worlds greatest rally to test riders’ navigation, endurance and skill like never before in the state of Baja CA. ERENDIRA BAJA CA MEXICO- Bajarallymoto.com announced today that BAJA Champion and DAKAR finisher Quinn Cody has filled the final reserve spot in the Inaugural BAJA RALLY taking place this weekend in Northern Baja CA.
"I am excited to be part of this first BAJA RALLY," Cody explained, "I truly believe that rally is the future of off road racing in North America as private land and environmental restrictions encroach on Baja. We need to adapt to keep our sport alive."
Cody, who has several handfuls of BAJA victories and championships with HONDA as well as an overall win at Vegas to Reno (solo), competed in his first DAKAR Rally in 2011 with impressive results for a rookie. His following trip to the DAKAR ended with a shoulder injury after an impressive pair of opening stages.“Having Quinn is a big plus for our rally”, noted BAJA RALLY creator Scotty Breauxman, “He validates our event with his participation and we think the stages pose enough of a navigational challenge to make it interesting and fun for him.”
Cody’s sister Anna entered the rally last month and has been training with Quinn and others to prepare for BAJA’s first rally. The Cody’s will form the only brother/sister duo in the event.
Cody’s name rounds off a list of other champions and DAKAR vets such as Johnny Campbell, Niño Rojas, Andy Grider, Octavio Valle and Larry Roeseler. It is highly unpredictable which of these riders will have the strongest navigation skills during the 2 days of rally stages but we know that speed is far less a factor in success at the BAJA RALLY because the navigation is so vital. All of the action kicks off this Friday in Santo Tomas with the pre-rally activities and BAJA's first rally takes the green flag at 7:00AM on Saturday.

Anna Cody Enters The BAJA RALLY
(Versión en Español abajo por Julio Baeza)
ERENDIRA, BAJA CA, MEXICO-Bajarallymoto.com has announced that female desert racing champion and Baja matriarch Anna Cody will participate in the Inaugural BAJA RALLY de Motos this October 4-6 in Northern Baja CA. Cody, who most recently won the 250 expert class at the Best In The Desert Vegas to Reno race, is best known for her historic solo finish in the 2006 BAJA 1000, the first such finish for any female motorcycle racer.
“There is a deep significance to Anna’s joining us in our first BAJA RALLY”, explains rally creator and director Scotty Breauxman, “Not only is she our only female entrant, but the ironic symbolism between her and the Johnson-Meling women is important to our mission to create an event that educates and immerses our participants and teams into the local history and culture of Baja CA.”
More than 100 years ago, “norteamericano” settlers Harry and Ella Johnson strived with their children against all odds as miners and cattle ranchers at San Antonio Del Mar and the foothills and mesas below San Pedro De Martir. They were the forebears of the Meling family name, which is prevalent in the area today. When most all other migrants from the north failed, Ella Johnson and “Bertie” Meling persevered.
“The striking similarity”, Breuaxman continued, “In that like the Johnsons and Melings, Anna Cody has fought hard to endure BAJA in a mostly male dominated arena. Having her with us for this first rally is extremely important to our team and to our hosts of BAJA.”
Part of Cody’s effort to participate in the BAJA RALLY is supported by Geoff Hill of BajaBound Insurance. Hill is an avid video maker who hopes to document Cody’s adventure from the preparation through completion.

ESTARA ANNA CODY PARTICIPANDO EN EL 1er BAJA RALLY DE MOTOS
Johnny Campbell Officially Enters The Inaugural BAJA RALLY
ERENDIRA, BC- BajaRallyMoto.com announced today that 11-time BAJA 1000 champion and DAKAR veteran Johnny Campbell of HONDA fame will compete in the inaugural BAJA RALLY this October 4-6 in Northern BAJA. Campbell’s name rounds of a fine list of BAJA stars vying for top honors at this event including Larry Roeseler, Ricky Johnson & Cameron Steele.
“I’m really excited to help bring rally racing to Baja”, Campbell explained today, “I love to navigate for the challenge and added elements that come along with that. I’m sure with all the rally rookies, there will be some great memories that develop from this inaugural BAJA RALLY.”
Campbell is a living legend with an unheralded legacy of BAJA wins under his Johnny Campbell Racing (JCR) program that extends the multi-decade HONDA dynasty of the late Bruce Ogilvie. Moreover, Campbell’s rally record is as robust as any American with 3 DAKAR finishes and back-to-back podiums in the Nevada Rally capped by a win in 1995. His first DAKAR appearance in 2001 was the best result by an American rookie. In 2012, Johnny was tapped by Robby Gordon to be his navigator in Campbell's debut in as a co-driver. America "rallied" around the duo as they went on to 2 stage wins and a handful of podiums in that controversial battle with Monster Mini's Stephane Peterhansel.
“Johnny Campbell is a literal ‘Rockstar’ so having a warrior of his caliber in this ground breaking event ups the ante for us in a multitude of ways”, according to BAJA RALLY director Scotty Breauxman, “JC has been all over BAJA, from TJ to the tip and from coast to coast. We welcome the challenge to create stage routes that will test him in places he’s never been before. There is no American who brings more rally experience to this event than Johnny.”

SPOT TRACKERS REQUIRED FOR FIRST BAJA RALLY
ERENDIRA, BAJA CA, MEXICO- BAJA RALLY organizers announced today that SPOT Satellite Messenger has teamed up with the inaugural BAJA RALLY this October to add an important layer of safety to both participants and rally officials alike. The highly anticipated first ever BAJA RALLY sold out in 36 hours this week.
All participants in the BAJA RALLY will be required to carry a functioning SPOT tracker device during each stage of the rally and will need to verify functionality as a requirement for passing tech inspection on Friday October 4th in Ensenada. SPOT, as supporting sponsor of the BAJA RALLY, will give participants a generous discount on new SPOT purchases as well as a discounted rate on the first year of service for new customers.
“Making SPOT trackers a requirement is a 3-way win and it adds an invaluable element of safety for everyone involved”, explained rally director Scotty Breauxman, “SPOT has been an essential part of adventure motorcycle riding since it hit the market in 2005 and we trust the product and the service SPOT provides.”
Breauxman added “This is the most effective and economical way for our officials to monitor the locations of all participants and mobile-unit personnel for the purpose of safety as well as allowing participants to send a “HELP” message to our mobile command center located at the end of each stage, just in case they break down or get off course.”
The SPOT Satellite Messenger also features an “SOS” function that is used for extreme instances, whereby a distress signal is beamed to the GEOS dispatch center in Houston, Texas.
Prior to the technical inspection on Friday October 4th, participants will need to configure their SPOT settings to include 2 BAJA RALLY mobile phone numbers and 2 BAJA RALLY email addresses. As the final condition of clearing technical inspection, a rally official must receive the “OK” signal from the participant.
“Many of our participants already utilize this proven technology”, Breauxman continued, “But mandating new users and teaching them the setup and functional use of SPOT is a great thing for the sport of rally-moto as it grows in BAJA CA.”
